Luxembourg definitely belongs to the hinterland of three world-leading ports: Rotterdam, Antwerp and Zeebrugge are less than 300 km away from Luxembourg City. Rail, rivers and roads all quickly link Luxembourg with the North Sea.
Thanks to a strong political will to diversify the economy and an overall favourable business climate, Luxembourg has become, over the years, an attractive location for shipping businesses. Meanwhile, a broad range of companies active in the maritime industry are already established: services range from shipping to dredging, yachting and ship management, consulting, legal, insurance, classification, logistics and finance.
Since June 2008 Luxembourg’s maritime industries have set up an advocacy group and brought to the fore Luxembourg’s Maritime Cluster. Forty-one firms and organizations already take part in the project.
The Maritime Cluster pursues the aim, on a non-profit basis, of contributing to the development of the maritime sector and the associated services in Luxembourg, by implementing promotion and communication strategies. It promotes both the maritime sector in the stricter sense and its linked activities, such as logistics or service providing.
